The easiest way to search is to enter a word or phrase in the quick search box in the main menu bar. This searches the entire database. For examples, see Basic Search Syntax.
If a quick search box is available on the home page, you can use it the same way.
If a quick search box includes content type and field drop-down lists below the query box, you can use the controls to specify on what fields the query is performed. The example below searches only the Title or Subtitle fields in Catalog for the word energy.
Click Add to add a new row, and the X to remove a row. The settings are retained as long as you use Back to Search to return to the Home page. If you return to the home page by clicking Home, the quick search box reverts to its default state.
To limit your search to a single content type, select a content type from the Search menu. This opens a search screen for that content type. You can then type words or phrases in the field(s) you want to search, or use the available controls (lists, calendars, etc.). See Using a Search Screen.
If the Search menu includes a Run Saved Search option (usually at the top), you can choose to run a previously-saved search. When you choose this option, a dialog box appears showing:
Private Searches. Searches that you have saved for your personal use.
Public Searches. Searches to be shared by multiple users.
Click the name of a search to run that search and display the search results.
After searching, you can use the following options to further refine the results.
Use the Filter box at the top right of the screen to narrow the results. A new search will be performed against your search results. For example, if you searched for smith and got 100 records, you can use the Filter box to search the results for john, which should find fewer records.
After a Quick Search, you can use the Limit results to... drop-down list just above the search results to select one or more content types. The content types you do not select will be hidden in the search results. If you choose a content type by mistake, you can click the X after the content type name to remove it from the results.
If Guided Navigation (also known as Faceted Search) has been enabled, check boxes and/or range controls will appear to the right the records in the search results. Use these controls to limit the results to only the selected criteria.
